We went to the Nationals!

On August 6 we rolled out pretty earlier on our way to Louisville, KY for the Street Rod Nationals.  This was my first trip to the nationals, and it was a bit overwhelming.  How do you look at and take pictures of over 10,000 cars?  Two words…. You can’t!

This was a trip to hang out with a some really good friends and some family, and just take some time to look at some cars and buy some parts for a winter project (more on that later this year).  My wife made her first trip with me in the hot rod and my parents met us in Louisville to hang out.  It was great to hang out with my dad at the car show, hadn’t been able to do that in a long time!

So, after a little over 1200 miles in an 83 year old car, we made it home safely, with the exception of a broken windshield.  I’d do it all over again in a heartbeat, but maybe not today!

North Little Rock Car/Air Show – June 27, 2015

I am not playing catch up trying to get this one posted.  Had some issues with getting logged into the website the past couple of days that didn’t help matters much.  Anyways, on June 27, we headed over to the North Little Rock Airport for their Air and Car show hosted by EAA.  This was my first time at an air show, and it was pretty cool to get to see some of the airplanes that these guys build/restore.  You think that our car hobby is expensive, I don’t want to even know what it takes to build/maintain some of these planes.

It was a pretty warm day to be hanging out on the asphalt tarmac of an airport, but there was a pretty good turnout of cars, about 140 if I remember correctly.

Lonoke Lions Club Car Show – June 6, 2015

After a lot of rain and colder weather the past couple of months, we finally got some good car show weather.  So, we headed out to Lonoke to the Lions Club Car Show.  They moved the location of the car show this year to the fairgrounds and the turn out of 50 or so cars was good with the other car shows going on around the area.

The weather was also great today and to hang out with good friends and take a few pictures today.

Here are a few pics from the day and the rest can be seen here.

Mid-America Street Rod Nats – Part 2

Here is part 2 of my trip to the Mid-America Street Rod Nats.  Saturday was a good day at the fairgrounds, which is when most of the cars are there.  As earlier posted, there was just shy of 2000 cars registered this year, which is down just a bit from last year.

On this day, we did decided to un-cork the headers on the Model A and cruise through the fairgrounds.  You may have already seen part 1 of that video and there is more to come.

This was also the day to hit the vendor booths in the building and pick up a few things for the shop and upcoming projects for the hot rod.  Details on that later….

Also some shots of the cruising on Glenstone from Saturday night.

Mid-America Street Rod Nats – Part 1

The weekend started out great with a road trip to Springfield, MO.  And to answer one of the most asked questions, Yes, I drove the hot rod, it did not go on a trailer!

We only live a few hours from Springfield but it is a great trip and pretty scenic.  I was able to capture some of the landscape and the cars in our group with the GoPro cameras.  One of them in my car and one in a friends ’39 Dodge.  Click the link below to checkout the video of the road trip.

Hot Roads on the Road to NSRA Springfield

After we arrived in Springfield and getting registered for the car show and our hotels, we went to the kick-off part that is hosted by American National Insurance.  They host this in their parking lot of their offices in Springfield.  They take care of all the entertainment and feed everyone a pretty good BBQ dinner.  Sorry, no pics of the food!

Friday morning was an early start.  We got out to the fairgrounds and found our place to park and watch the cars come in… It’s fun to watch the different cars come in.  As always, there are some that you’ll love, some that you’ll like, and then there is always a few that you won’t like.  When there is 1200-1500 cars, there is something that will interest everyone.

Friday afternoon, I got to spend in the NSRA Inspection tent helping inspect some of the cars.  Most of the cars that we looked at passed with flying colors and received their ’23 Safety’ sticker.  Put of few of the 16 point stickers on, and failed a couple of vehicles for one reason or another.  But it’s always good to get these guys to look at your car every year.  Just having an extra set of eyes that isn’t familiar with your car, might just see something that needs to be fixed.

All in all, it was a good day and also ran in to some friends and saw some people that I have met in the past and haven’t seen for a couple of years.  Gonna be able to see a few more people that I know tomorrow and I always say, that is what this all about.  It’s as much about the people and friends as it is the cars.

Here are a few shots from the day, and you can click here for the rest!  Stay tuned for more…

Toad Suck Daze Car Show – May 2, 2015

Since I am a member/officer of our local car club, I hung out working the car show yesterday at the Conway Expo Center & Fairgrounds.  We moved to this location a couple of years ago and are able to put most of the cars inside the building.  There were 147 cars registered, with most of those inside.

What’s great about doing this show indoors, is that it usually rains the weekend of the car show and Toad Suck Daze festival, but no rain this year!

There is always a good mix of old vs new vehicles at this show, and this year was no difference.  Everything from the 28 – 31 Model A hot rods to the new Mustangs and Challengers and everything in between.

The money that TSCC raises from their car shows helps out local charities and they always make a donation to Museum of Autos on Petit Jean as they are a MOTAA affiliate club.

Here are a few pics from the car show to get you started, and the rest can be seen by clicking here.

Rev’n and Roar’n Car Show – April 25, 2015

This was the 2nd annual car show that benefits the Arkansas School for the Blind and Visually Impared.  But, this was the first time for me to attend the show.  It was a small show, with somewhere around 30 or so cars registered, and a good assortment of cars/trucks.

It turned out to be a great day for a car show and a chance to get out and drive the hot rod and hang out with some good friends.  That is still the part that I love the most!

Great job to the ASBVI for putting on this show!
